March 19th: Hands off Iran!

Posted by NoWarOnIran!

From Over our dead bodies!, Reza Nasri's blog:

We are [two] days away from March 19th. (The day we stood against the whole world to nationalize our oil industry!).
I had previously suggested that we all change the titles of our weblogs on the anniversary of this day to a slogan that would show the world that we (iranians) still stand by our sovereignty and are still committed to the same noble principles that made us fight for our rights 54 years ago.

Many people have come up with great suggestions for the slogan. My favorite one is "Hands off Iran". I think it is simple and has a good connotation to it.

Of course, everyone is free to add other words to this slogan if they wish to, but I suggest that we keep "Hands off Iran" as the common denominator.

We just have [two] days left, so I encourage everyone to promote the campaign on their weblogs and invite others to join.

It's an awesome idea. Although I'll be away on business then, Rummy's Diaries will be participating as best it can with a special pre-released 19 March message. I can think of few stronger arguments against allowing another imperialist invasion than the contents of my blog. I'm sorry I won't be here to participate directly. Good luck with it.

Anyone heard of the five Iranians who are walking from Nottingham to London to join in the anti war march, protesting against the US aggressive intents on Iran?

I was just wondeirng what year the Iranian oil industry was nationalised. I read this and thought it was a big coincidence, because it was on 18 March 1938 that Lazaro Cardenas expropriated the petroleum fields in Mexico.

Could they be related?

U.S. Using Anti-Terror War to Gain World Oil Reserves - Soviet Intelligence Chief

On the pretext of fighting international terrorism the United States is trying to establish control over the world's richest oil reserves, Leonid Shebarshin, ex-chief of the Soviet Foreign Intelligence Service, who heads the Russian National Economic Security Service consulting company, said in an interview for the Vremya Novostei newspaper.

Referring to his meeting with an unnamed al-Qaeda expert at the Rand Corporation, a nonprofit research organization in the U.S., Shebarshin said: "We have agreed that [al-Qaeda] is not a group but a notion."

"The fight against that all-mighty ubiquitous myth deliberately linked to Islam is of great advantage for the Americans as it targets the oil-rich Muslim regions," Shebarshin emphasized.
